Blackmores Sydney Running Festival 2017
Team Cure Cancer Australia did us proud at this year’s Blackmores Sydney Running Festival!
Last Sunday saw close to 150 Team Cure Cancer Australia participants run for a cure at Blackmores Sydney Running Festival. Billed as ‘the fun run for everyone’, the festival offers runners of all ages and abilities the chance to participate, with courses ranging from 3.5km right through to full marathons.
We were delighted to see so many members of Team Cure Cancer Australia - as well as corporate teams from RCG and SC Johnson Heroes - take to the track and raise over $32,000 (and counting!) for Cure Cancer Australia. Their hard work means we can continue supporting Australia’s brightest emerging cancer researchers as they work towards finding a cure.
It was wonderful to be able to thank and congratulate so many of our fabulous runners after the race at the Can Too marquee, where Cure Cancer Australia were generously hosted as guests. A huge shout out to our star fundraiser Hang McGuire who raised $7,105! Hang’s fundraising inspiration is one particularly close to her heart - earlier this year, her husband Andrew was diagnosed with bowel cancer. You can read more about Hang’s story and find out how you can sponsor her here.
Special mentions also go to:
David Corin - Ran the full marathon and raised $2,003. David – a prostate cancer survivor – only signed up three days before the run and quickly became our second highest fundraiser!
Vita and her son Leo Talmont - Took part in the family run, raising $1401 in honour of Vita’s mum and her husband (Leo’s dad) who both passed away from cancer. Vita wanted them both to take part to show Leo, who is just 8, that he can do anything he puts his mind to.
Jenny and her son Issac – Took part in the festival to support Issac’s friend Leo, after Issac learned that Leo had lost his dad to cancer. They raised $1368.
The Glanville Fundraising Group - Headed by Doug Glanville who roped in his wife Andrea, his mum Carmel and all his employees, raising $3203 in honour of Doug’s uncle who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.
Juliana-Louise van Hooser – A regular Cure Cancer Australia fundraiser who has been running marathons for us for a number of years, raising $920 at this year’s event.
A very special thank you also goes out to our team of 38 Cure Cancer Australia volunteers, who were dotted at various stations throughout the course. Big shout out to our STAR Team Leaders Les Bryce. Tim Roberts, Sandra Hastings and Vinay Yuvaraj who did a truly amazing job. If you’d like to find out how to volunteer for us, head to our Volunteer Page.
Once again, a huge congratulations and THANK YOU to all those who made this year’s Blackmores Sydney Running Festival such a success.
