Cure Cancer’s work recognised by the Governor-General of Australia

We were honoured to receive a special gift and message from our Patron, the Governor-General of Australia.

There is no denying that 2020 has been challenging for most, if not all, of us. However, despite the unique concerns faced by Cure Cancer as a result of both the bushfires at the start of the year and by the disruption caused by COVID-19, our commitment to raising funds, providing hope and enabling ground-breaking cancer research has never wavered.

In December that commitment was recognised by the Governor-General of Australia and it was an honour to receive the Governor General’s Medallion in recognition of Cure Cancer’s work and the contribution that the organisation has made to the Australian community.

“Funding early-career cancer researchers has never been so important, particularly in today's environment and I couldn't be more proud of the work my team and their dedication to meet this goal.”
Nikki Kinloch, CEO, Cure Cancer

The Governor-General’s message to Cure Cancer:

Linda and I, on behalf of all Australians, would like to thank you for your contribution to Cure Cancer Australia over the course of 2020.

The year has brought many challenges. The way we live, work and stay connected has changed.

More positively, it has also highlighted the contributions that so many Australians make to their community. Linda and I have encountered this goodness in countless conversations, visits and, in a sign of the pecularities of 2020, video conferences over the course of the year. Time and time again we have been struck the selflessness and generosity of Australians.

This is not, of course, to understate the scale of the challenge or, indeed, the pain being felt in parts of our community. It does, though, make us both enormously proud to be Australian and hopeful for the future.

Linda and I are proud to be associated with organisations like Cure Cancer Australia. The contribution that Cure Cancer Australia and you make in our community is considerable.

We would like to thank you for your work, passion and commitment.

Yours Sincerely,
Governor-General and Linda Hurley
