ORIX Australia Turn Up the Heat with BARBECUREs in Melbourne and Sydney

Staff and neighbouring businesses came together to show their support for Cure Cancer Australia.

Earlier this month, ORIX Australia’s Melbourne and Sydney offices joined forces to host two fantastic corporate BARBECUREs and raise money for Cure Cancer Australia, with Reggie Cabal, CEO of ORIX Australia taking on the role of Chief Cook at both events.

Second time BARBECURE hosts and valued supporters of Cure Cancer Australia, the ORIX BARBECURE sizzle began in Melbourne. One of the largest fundraisers the office has ever taken part in, staff and neighbouring businesses gathered together to enjoy food and drink, and were given the opportunity to take part in raffles, PowerBall fundraisers and even gold coin donation massages! Topping off the event was  an insightful presentation from current Cure Cancer Australia grant recipient Dr. Fernando Guimaraes, an immunologist at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research whose work is focused on melanoma research.

‘We were so grateful to Fernando for attending our Melbourne BARBECURE, and for making such an interesting presentation,’ said Natalie Bedggood, Credit Account Officer at ORIX, Melbourne. ‘His passion was so inspiring, and it really brought home what we were fundraising for. The facts and statistics he was able to give us were incredible, and we’ve had so much positive feedback since the event. It was so wonderful to see staff come together and get involved in all sorts of different ways. We've already had requests about when the next BARBECURE will be!’

The next day, ORIX head office hosted their own BARBECURE in their Sydney parking lot and invited staff from neighbouring business WealthStream to attend. Our beautiful Sydney weather did us proud, and the event was a resounding success.

‘The Sydney BARBECURE was a great opportunity to bring our staff and neighbours together for an afternoon of getting to know one another over delicious food. Not only were we able to raise money for a cause that is very close to many of our hearts, it was also a great team bonding activity and something we’d certainly recommend other businesses get on board with,’ said Kerri Ryan, Executive Assistant at ORIX Sydney.

The combined total raised as a result of both BARBECUREs was over $10,000, which includes generous match funding by ORIX. This truly remarkable amount has almost doubled their amazing 2017 BARBECURE donation of $5738.

A huge thank you to everyone involved. The support of our corporate partners is crucial in enabling us to continue supporting Australia’s brightest emerging researchers in their search for a cure.

Join us as in our mission to Cure Cancer Australia, one BARBECURE at a time!
