In 2020, that’s an estimated 147,956 members of our community.
Our passionate team of scientists, donors, fundraisers, and volunteers are determined to make a difference for every patient and family affected, and to ultimately make this the last generation to die from cancer.
There’s only one way to reach that goal: research.
Cure Cancer funds the cleverest, most innovative research projects from young scientists working across all cancer types. But in 2019, only 11.8% of research projects from early-career cancer researchers were funded. We are the only organisation in Australia who exclusively fund these incredibly talented scientists. Without support, many of the researchers who we took a chance on early in their careers may have been forced to leave research altogether. Instead, they are now leaders in cancer research globally.
With your help, Cure Cancer will remain the catalyst to future research success. If we don’t fund the next generation of outstanding scientists, we won’t be able to create a pipeline of mid to late career researchers. We cannot afford to put the future of cancer research at risk.
Philanthropy and major gifts have a huge part to play in our mission to make this the last generation to die from cancer. The generosity of individuals, families, charitable trusts, foundations, and donor advised funds make all the difference.
In fact, trusts, foundations, private and public ancillary funds, and donor advised funds (sub-funds) are some of the fastest-growing giving methods and serve as tax-efficient ways to manage charitable donations. They allow donors to make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate tax deduction, and then recommend grants over time.
How you can help
Support a specific Research Area or Cancer Type
Channel your donation toward an area you’re passionate about like pancreatic, brain, breast, or childhood cancer.
Named grants can also be created in the area you want to impact, an example being the Peter Charody and Cure Cancer Grant for lung cancer research.
Fund the cancer research area of greatest need
We fund the best and brightest early-career cancer researchers.
In 2020, that’s 17 young scientists nationwide who need support right now. In recognition of her generous support, 1 scientist’s project is now In Memory of Kathleen Britten.
Help us fund a supply of Cure Cancer Big Hug Boxes
Help support cancer patients in real time by funding a supply of Big Hug Boxes, designed to promote health and wellness for patients undergoing treatment.
Support our scientists in a Mentorship Program
Professional development and mentorship outside the lab are significant gaps in the careers of early-career researchers, but our Mentorship Program fosters further personal and professional growth.
