Google fires up their grills for BarbeCURE®

01 Oct 2022
Google has raised $125,000 in the last six years for BarbeCURE®. The money they have raised has helped kick-start six research projects with new ideas and innovative approaches.

One of these projects was A/Prof Orazio Vittorio’s breakthrough idea of reducing the levels of copper within cancer cells so that tumours can no longer hide from the immune system and the cancer can no longer thrive. He is now preparing for clinical trials for his research in childhood neuroblastoma and we may soon be looking at more affordable and accessible treatments for children with this cancer type without having them go through numerous rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

The staff at Google kicked-off Cure Cancer’s BarbeCURE® season with a huge success in their workplace last October 2022.

Here’s how:

GIFT MATCHING - This allowed employees to double the donations made to Cure Cancer.

BarbeCURE® WITH THE STARS - Cure Cancer ambassadors attended Google’s BarbeCURE®, culminating in a Workplace Masterclass.

KNOWLEDGE SHARING AND BUILDING - To demonstrate why new ideas matter in curing cancer, Google facilitated the discussion on why investing in cancer research is important, and invited staff to share their own stories and experience with cancer.

INTERNAL COMMS - Think posters around the office, digital communications within teams, and face to face discussions. You name it, Google got everyone onboard to join the fun-raising.

CONNECTED EXPERIENCES – Following the onset of hybrid and remote working arrangements at Google, BarbeCURE® became an opportunity for rebuilding team culture and connecting with colleagues over a noteworthy cause.
