Why early-career cancer researchers?
Cure Cancer supports researchers at the start of their careers when few other funding bodies will take the chance.
In today's research environment, funding is incredibly tight, meaning research grants are few and far between. The majority are awarded to scientists who have a proven track record of results, so very few grants are available to young researchers.
This has led to potentially lifesaving research from incredibly talented young minds going unexplored. We are here to change that.

The Role:
The General Manager is responsible for the hands-on management of the operational aspects of the company. As a member of the senior management team, they are responsible for instituting systems and processes that provide effective internal management and efficiencies.
The successful candidate has direct responsibility for managing and/or providing strategic leadership and oversight to Operations, Fundraising, Marketing and Customer Experience and participates in the general management of the company in close support of the CEO.
The General Manager is also responsible for ensuring compliance and legislation expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning, Fundraising & Organisational Growth:
- Participates in developing and implementing the strategic plan that supports the organisation’s vision and goals.
- Has a strong understanding of the Fundraising landscape and can manage, motivate and drive the teams to meet their targets.
- Participates in supporting the CEO and the leadership team in setting policies and determining strategies, to meet or exceed revenue, profit, and cash flow commitments to the organisation, including support to identify opportunities for new business creation.
- Support the analyses of current and future industry trends and organisational needs and accurately assesses functional responsibilities competitive strengths and vulnerabilities.
- Develops and implements a talent, capability & training/recruitment plan to ensure the right people are in the right place at the right time to meet the strategic needs of the organisation.
- Manages employee performance processes by establishing clear goals and expectations, tracking progress against the goals, ensuring timely feedback, and addressing performance problems and issues promptly.
Operations & Operational Systems
- Ensure continuous improvement of operations and operational systems, leveraging innovation & technology to deliver effective and efficient business operations.
- In conjunction with the Marketing team ensure continuous improvement of customer/donor satisfaction through programs, technology and processes to meet customer/donor management quality and expectations.
- Manage operations team and execute, as required, support functions, including, the office, IT, facility & supplier management, HR and WHS.
- Participate in formulating and administering company policies and is the lead in their enforcement.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree plus 7+ years’ experience within a General Management role.
- Previous experience in the not-for-profit sector and a sound understanding of fundraising and associated legislation.
Other Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
- Must have strong business knowledge and experience with the ability to provide reports and analysis, develop and implement strategic plans.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of management and administration, governance policies, project management and personnel management.
- Must be able to develop business processes and management of projects.
- Skilled in planning, organising, directing and coordinating a wide variety of activities.
Technical Attributes:
- Experience with the following systems: CRM database management (Salesforce.com) Marketing automation platforms (Pardot) and HR platforms (Employment Hero)

+Individual Giving Executive
Position Description
Position Title: Individual and Philanthropic Giving Executive
Position Type: Full-time fixed term contract until January 2021 – Parental leave cover
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
The Organisation:
Founded in 1967, Cure Cancer Australia is a National independent, not-for-profit organisation that has funded Australia’s brightest early-career researchers across all areas of cancer research. We estimate that in the last ten years, every dollar we have invested in research grants has resulted in an additional $45 of funding for our researchers. The organisation is now over 53 years old and we’re proud that many of the rising stars funded are now at the forefront of medical research internationally.
The Role:
With a focus on philanthropic giving and grant applications, this role is focused on driving fundraising revenue for all Individual Giving including but not limited to: Trusts & Foundations, Regular Giving, Appeals, Collaboration and Major Gifts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategies to grow existing individual giving donors and acquire new individual donors.
- Write and apply for grant applications with Trusts & Foundations, Corporate grants and government grants.
- Develop, enhance and maintain all existing major gifts and philanthropic programmes and where needed develop and implement new programmes or initiatives.
- Manage the individual giving customer life cycle from eDMs, to email to Direct Mail marketing initiatives as well as social and other forms of marketing where required. This includes prospecting, acquisition, activation, reactivation, brand loyalty and retention activities.
- Identify and drive initiatives to lead to an increase in Cure Cancer Australia becoming the charity of choice for individuals and major gift givers.
- Manage and grow the individual giving and philanthropic fundraising (sales) pipeline.
- Develop and manage income and expenditure budgets and forecasting across all campaigns within your remit, meeting or exceeding giving targets whilst enuring you stay within the allocated cost budget.
- Engage and support targeted high-value partners, individuals and fundraising champions to maximize fundraising potential and execute recognition strategies and programs.
- Manage the logistics for In Celebration and In Memoriam requests and the funeral home In Memory donation programmes.
- Coordinate the relationship management of the Regular Giving and Collaboration members including setup, welcome packs, updates, failed transactions and cancellations.
- Update and maintain the supporter database (Salesforce), campaign hierarchy structure for all of your contacts.
- Follow established compliance and due diligence processes across all fundraising processes, policies and procedures including third party suppliers, contractual arrangements, renewals, fundraiser agreements and risk and issues management.
- Any other duties as required.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- 3 years’ minimum experience in a similar fundraising role.
- Strong experience with a proven track record of successful grant applications.
- Demonstrated experience and skills in relationship building with a variety of stakeholders
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate, be persuasive, develop trust and maintain effective working relationships
- Exceptional written skills and the ability to contribute to the development of business proposals
- Experience using Salesforce (or similar) CRM; Pardot marketing automation (or similar email platform); Squarespace (or equivalent) CMS; and social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn)
- Demonstrated ability to work to deadlines and budget requirements; and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with a proven eye for detail
- Capacity for creative, innovative and dynamic thinking

The Role:
Fitness and Community Fundraising Coordinator role is instrumental in driving the acquisition engagement and relationships across key participation based and third-party events and partnerships, with a particular focus in Fitness. It is a relationship-based role, which nurtures and develops key stakeholder relationships, including corporate and community groups and partners to support database and donor acquisition, engagement and retention through fitness and community fundraising initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and implement strategies to leverage new event partnerships for third party and mass participation-based activities, with a particular focus on fitness events.
- Strengthen third party relationships to grow existing fitness event partnerships.
- Develop and manage income and expenditure budgets and forecasts across fitness and community fundraising initiatives, delivering appropriate reporting with focus on ROI per revenue stream.
- Accountability in delivering fundraising targets, quarterly and annually driven by fitness event campaigns and community fundraising initiatives.
- Provide excellent end-to-end customer service and execute next best practice donor care strategies across the customer lifecycle, donor care programs and recognition programs for fitness and community fundraising.
- Oversee and successfully manage the logistical execution of third party and mass participation events; managing both on the day logistics and post event functions and follow-ups.
- In collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team, develop marketing plans and promotional material for key events and partnerships, including collateral, merchandise, social media, and fundraising toolkits.
- Build strong relationships with key event organisers and supporters to maximise fundraising results and ensure expectations are met and objectives are aligned with the organisation.
- Oversee system to recruit and coordinate volunteers to support fitness and community third party activities.
- With support from Corporate Partnership Manager, produce and deliver proposals and presentations to secure third party event partnerships.
- In collaboration with the Fundraising and Marketing team develop and execute the multi-channel fundraising communications strategy including copy and story development, and post event functions and follow-ups.
- Follow legislation, compliance, internal procedures, policies and due diligence processes.
- In consultation with the fundraising team and the database administrator, maintain and update the supporter Salesforce database.
- Support with fundraising administration tasks and reporting as required, including, phone and email enquiries, donations and bulk receipt processing, mail procedures, merchandise and stock storage, stationery and supplies, vendors and supplier liaison.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate, be persuasive, develop trust and maintain effective working relationships.
- Exceptional written skills and the ability to engage supports, donor’s and community fundraisers.
- Demonstrated ability to work to deadlines and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with a proven eye for detail.

- Develop and manage income and expenditure budgets and forecasts across Cure Cancer events and Third Party and mass participation-based campaigns, delivering appropriate reporting with focus on ROI per revenue stream.
