Types of gifts

There are many types of bequests, but some of the most common are listed here. You could also choose to direct your bequest to a type of cancer research that’s close to your heart or to wherever need is greatest.

  • Residual bequest – After taking care of friends or family, you can leave all or a percentage of the remainder of your estate.
  • Percentage bequest – A percentage of the overall value of your estate, which allows for growth or depletion of the value of your estate.
  • General or pecuniary bequest - A gift or fixed amount of money.
  • Asset bequest – Specific items like property, shares, bonds, art, or jewellery.

It’s important to have the correct wording to ensure that your wishes are carried out exactly as you wish. While we have provided some suggestions in our Will to Cure Cancer Guide, we strongly recommend that you consult your legal advisor for further assistance.
