Remembering the late Professor Pamela Russell AM

Today we remember Professor Pamela J. Russell AM, a groundbreaking academic researcher of immunology, bladder and prostate research who sadly recently passed away.

Professor Pamela Russell AM was an inspiration in the research field, having procured more than $36 million in grants, published more than 200 papers in international journals and has co-authored six patents. Cure Cancer is proud to have funded Professor Russell’s research six times throughout the years from 1988 through to 1996.

Amongst her various achievements, Professor Russell AM was made a Membership of the Order of Australia from her research on prostate and bladder cancer in 2003. She also received an Honorary Life Membership of the Australasian Gene Therapy Society in 2009, the inaugural award for Prostate Cancer Researcher of the Year in 2010, and made Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences in 2015.

More recently, Professor Russell AM was working at both the Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre in Queensland and at the Translational Research Institute (TRI) as the head of Biomedical Imaging and Prostate Cancer Models. She was a continuous mentor to her students and pioneer for women in STEM.

Her countless achievements will be forever remembered by us and our community, as well as aspiring future researchers.
