What is Gastro-intestinal cancer?

Gastro-intestinal cancers include oesophageal, stomach, small intestine, bowel (large intestine, colorectal) and anal cancers.

Gastro-intestinal cancer incidence rates?

Gastro-Intestinal cancers occur in both males and females.

- In 2019, there will be an estimated 1,687 new cases of oesophageal cancer diagnosed in Australia, and 484 new cases of anal cancer diagnosed in Australia.

- It is estimated that in Australia in 2019 there will be 2,462 new cases of stomach cancer (1,613 males and 849 females).

- In 2020, it is estimated that 15,494 people (8,340 males and 7,154 females) will be diagnosed with bowel cancer.

-  Cancer of the small intestine cancer is classed as a rare cancer, (any type of cancer that has less than 6 incidences per year per 100,000 population).
