In memory of Myrene Woodrow

BarbeCURE

$ for $ match up to $3,000! In Memory of Myrene On her Birthday 22 April 2024

Past members Robert and Myrene Woodrow purchased their first boat at Bobbin Head in May 2014 a 30ft Maxim - as newbies they were happy to admit that they didn't know what they were doing - but it was love at first sight for Myrene. She loved boating and not long after this they were invited to join the BHCC. Myrene loved the social networking and would organise as many people as possible to occupy a table at the Club’s Opening of the Boat Season or the Club’s Annual Fundraising function. In 2016 Myrene was diagnosed with breast cancer stage 4 and as they were keen supporters of the Club’s Cure Cancer Fundraising event and now having experienced first-hand the amazing work doctors and nurses carry out with available clinical treatments, they both agreed that the best way to fight this disease is through research and education. They had booked a party cruise on Sydney Harbour for Myrene’s 70th birthday in April 2020, but Sydney went into COVID lockdown and she spent her final weeks entertaining friends on the boat at Empire Marina. Myrene passed away in July 2020. Even though their boat has been sold and the Club membership lapsed, Robert is keen to assist the Club to continue raising funds for early-career minded researchers, in the hope that there will be a breakthrough to cure the disease. Please take up Robert’s challenge to match $ for $ any donation made to the Club’s Fundraising page on Monday, 22nd April 2024 (Myrene’s Birthday) – he has set aside a maximum of $3000 for this challenge – wouldn’t it be great to see the Club’s fundraising total increase by $6000 at the end of the day!

Marine was a great leader in the community at Empire Marina. Sadly missed but a lovely way to ensure we remember how she touched many people both in the club and marine precinct.

What a beautiful, fun loving, person Myrene was. She could cook more on her boat than many do in their homes . Robert - you’re both in my thoughts, always.
