THANK YOU TO OUR BARBECURE FUNDRAISERS
Our inspiring BarbeCURE fundraisers have raised nearly $200,000 to support life-saving cancer research!
Since July last year, over 200 BarbeCUREs have been registered and with more to come, we look at some of the fantastic BarbeCUREs that taken place so far and the different things you can do for your own BarbeCURE.
Our long time supporters, Orix Australia, hosted BarbeCUREs at both their Sydney and Melbourne offices this summer. We were honoured to attend both events, alongside our researchers, Dr Esther Lim and Dr Najoua Lalaoui, who spoke about the importance of cancer research.
As Esther explains, “We’ve seen cancer research itself changing drastically in the past ten years. I work in the field of melanoma research - ten years ago, a melanoma patient who walks into a clinic will have a patient survival of only six months but today, we’re seeing patients living past ten years.”
The Orix team raised a whooping $7,449 towards finding a cure for cancer!
We hope we’ve made hosting a BarbeCURE a breeze for with our online host kit and party resources. It’s always nice to see our fundraisers make the most of these tools, so we were especially pleased to see our BarbeCURE bunting making a star appearance at the NuTrans team’s event in Melbourne!
The team promoted their BarbCURE by uploading our pre-made signatures to their work emails and using our specially created artworks across their socials. It seems to have done the trick, with the event raising an astounding $3,052!
SOUTHERN VALES ARCHERY CLUB
A BarbeCURE can be held anywhere, anytime and by anyone! Take the Southern Vales Archery Club, for example, who replaced their bows with tongs and hosted a BarbeCURE at their club house last month.
With an assortment of activities from cricket, badminton, water balloons and more, it was a fun-filled day that brought together their community, including local MPs Natt Cooke and Katrine Hildyard. The event was particularly poignant as three members had lost loved ones to cancer just a week prior.
The BarbeCURE raised an impressive $1,050, doubling their original target!
ELTHAM CARPET ONE
Cancer is a terrible disease that too often takes away our loved ones, which is why the team at Eltham Carpet One in Victoria chose to host a BarbeCURE in honour of those close to them who had been affected by cancer.
The BarbeCURE saw staff and customers come together for a festive feast, raffle draws, prize auctions and entertaining games for all, raising a tremendous $1,839 to help find a cure.
ULONG GENERAL STORE
The Ulong General Store in the Valley threw out all the punches over the Australia Day long weekend and hosted a fun BarbeCURE that was even featured in their local newspaper, the Coffs Advocate.
What started as a small intimate gathering turned into a joyous celebration for everyone in town as the Ulong community rallied behind their favourite café and joined in on the festivities.
Their $500 target was smashed in record time and altogether, the BarbeCURE brought in an incredible $1,700 for life-saving cancer research.
