Cancer sucks; Research Rocks

I've spent the last 12 months being treated for osephegal cancer. Had major surgery in August and currently on immunotherapy to keep the cancer away. Immunotherapy is a game changer for many cancers and we must keep up the funding  to find a cure for all cancers

My Achievements

My Updates

Cancer changes lives. Research saves lives

Monday 1st Apr
Life threatening cancer, treatment &  major surgery in 2023 and now immunotherapy has certainly changed my view of life. My life will never be the same as before. I am forever grateful to my very astute GP of 30 yrs, picking up subtle signs and sent me for more tests, that ultimately saved my life.  Another month the cancer  would have been stage 4  instead of 3 and inoperable.
I can still find ways to make the most of life.  Just have to stay positive even on the bad days and see the good in each day and each person.

Thank you to my many wonderful friends and family who've been there for me from day one of this very difficult journey and made generous donations to a very important cause; Cure Cancer research ROCKS  for all of us
Please donate if you can
Love you  all ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

It isn’t about being strong. It is about taking care of myself and getting help when I need it

Final March swim at Dee Why

Sunday 31st Mar
Today on Easter Sunday it was a beautiful  morning and water was warm. Did 1.9 km today in 45 mins.   A personal best .   That's a wrap for March Swimming for CureCancer.  Been a blast and all this exercise can only be good for my recovery from this  ghastly osephegal cancer and surgery.   Getting there, one day at a time.
Thank you to all who sponsored me with donations to a very worthy cause xxx 😎❤️❤️

Prince Alfred Park Central Sydney

Sunday 31st Mar
Finally got to swim the 6th City of Sydney pool. Hard on a weekday or usual weekend.   Warm sunny day and great pool to boot . Lovely swim

Redleaf Pool WOOLAHARA 29 MARCH

Friday 29th Mar
Another 18 x 90m laps at Redleaf  (Murray Rose) Sea pool. This pool was huge. Water temp at 7am was divine, but the big fishies made me jump today 😎
Weary after 29 days swimming. Need to put some weight back on!

Bexley Aquatic Centre

Thursday 28th Mar
A cool 1.5 km  in 43 mins today at Bexley😎 Getting faster, but that heart rate up a bit. Weight going in the wrong direction 😳

28 pools and swim days done.  3 days to go. Would love some more donations. Every little bit helps our amazing researchers towards that goal of Cure Cancer

WAVES Baulkham Hills

Wednesday 27th Mar
Todays swim of 1.25 km or 25 x 50m laps in 39 mins, was in a grand complex at Baulkham Hills. WAVES was a bit Dubai esque with all the palm trees. Very swish.  Was hot day out there.
I'm swimming on for 45 days now. Until April 14th. Going  swimming out of Sydney for those 14 days . Stay tuned 😎

McCALLUM POOL Cremorne Point

Wednesday 27th Mar
Tuesday's swim  of 20 laps, 500m, was a free 25m ocean pool. Has the best views, lots of sunbathers but hardly any swimmers. I'm discovering things I never knew existed so close to home.

Botany Pool Sydney

Monday 25th Mar
https://www.curecancer.com.au/fundraisers/louisechilton

Thanks to  some new generous  donations I've surpassed my goal.

Today's swim  of 1.1 km or 22 laps, took me to Botany Aquatic centre, another old style outdoor pool about to be upgraded.  One more summer  in 2025 then closed until Oct 2027

Immunotherapy infusion number 8 march 21

Sunday 24th Mar
After 8 immunotherapy infusions, now only 8 to go, I'm feeling a little more confident with side effects stabilising  although still there. Just take it a day at a time. My amazing oncologist who is a lead researcher at The Garvan and care nurses at  Kinghorn, keep me grounded and confident in my outcomes going forward

Des RENFORD pool Maroubra

Sunday 24th Mar
Pleasant pool in EastEnders Sydney, heated to 26° for the brisk mornings. Not far from Maroubra Beach , about 2km, if you feel like an ocean dip as well. Great cafes along the beach front
So many great pools in Sydney

Gunyama Zetland 20 /3

Wednesday 20th Mar
A fabulous  pool east of the CBD. Easy to park at 1pm on a weekday and the pool discounts your parking so $10 goes down to $5 for 1m5 hrs. Did 50 x 25m laps today and I've now reached my distance target of 15km with 11 days left. So who knows. Hopefully I get to 25km. I feel stronger every lap

FANNY DURACK POOL PETERSHAM

Tuesday 19th Mar
Wasn't feeling the best today. Immunotherapy week seems to be lije that a few days before.  I  thought I wouldn't get to swim. When I got to pool had severe stomach cramps. It's a side effect of my treatment.  But once I hit the water  the pain eased with each lap. I did 74, yes 74  x 25 m laps . Tgats a record for me. 1.85 km in one swim !

ANDREW BOY CHARLTON 12th March

Saturday 16th Mar
A dusk swim with cruise ships leaving in the background. A beautiful balmy night and an invigorating swim.  Shame these outdoor pools close for the winter.  This one is idyllic

Ryde Aquatic Centre Fri 15th

Saturday 16th Mar
Swam 1km today. 40 x 25 laps was a personal best. I'm slow. Took me 47 mins but thankful I have the strength to keep on swimming.  Now to put on some weight.   Eating after cancer surgery is still an ordeal for me. Hoping the immunotherapy infusions I'm currently on every 4 weeks keeps doing its stuff .

Ryde pool is where the Women's Hockey team won gold in year 2000 🥇

Clovelly Thurs 14th March

Friday 15th Mar
A hot autumn day in Sydney saw me seeking an ocean pool.  Although not a favourite, it was a bit murky, the 25m length meant 24 laps instead of 12 to get my 600m. Somehow it felt easier and quicker. It was very refreshing and lovely

Andrew Boy Charlton Pool - Domain

Tuesday 12th Mar
Dusk in the city

Sun 10th March Narabeen

Tuesday 12th Mar
Sunrise on a Sunday  was superb and 12 laps later I had a dip in the beautiful warm surf as well. I'm getting closer to my goal of 15km every day

DAWNIES Balmain Weds 6th

Thursday 7th Mar
Was a sparkling day on Wednesday. I feel I'm getting stronger by the lap. I'm raising money for a cause close to my heart by swimming 15 km in March and would love your support.  I am currently receiving immunotherapy due to stage 3 osephegal cancer in 2023, it wasnt available for this cancer until late 2022, so after chemo, radiation, major surgery in August 2023 and now immunotherapy, cancer research has literally saved my life .
