Belinda's gift

When Belinda Tuckerman learnt about the Comfort Pack, she immediately wanted to pay it forward to support patients receiving cancer treatment.

Though she doesn’t have cancer herself, Belinda has Crohn's disease and receives infusions in an oncology ward, which helps to keep her in remission and avoid invasive operations.

“I’m quite lucky that I don’t have cancer, but I do know a few people who have had it. Because I’m in the oncology ward every eight weeks, I see a lot of the same people going through. When people are having their first session, they’re often stressed and it’s quite an emotional day for them.”

As a mum who already does a lot of charity work, Belinda says she was inspired to purchase a Comfort Pack at the reception counter* in support of her colleague’s sister, who had just been diagnosed with cancer.

“I thought it'd be really nice to put the Comfort Pack on her desk anonymously so she could hand it on to her sister. She cried when she saw it. She doesn’t need to know who it’s from, just that someone's thinking about them.

“It’s a really lovely gift to give. I like that the Comfort Pack has the creams, the ginger biscuit that will help with patients’ nausea, and socks, because the oncology wards are kept cold and the treatments make you cold.”

“Whenever you’re diagnosed with something, you need a bit of extra love and a bit more tender care at that stage. Having a little surprise pack arrive can make you feel a bit better on your low days.”
