About Dr Srilakshmi Srinivasan
The need
Prostate cancer affects over 1.2 million men worldwide. Interestingly, more than half of the prostate cancer risk is linked to genetics. However, the impact of genetic variants on the immune response has been largely overlooked.
The research
The research identified that a specific genetic variant (Thr163) present in 8% of men, influences the function of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in cancer cells, potentially leading to the spread of cancer to other parts of the body. The study aims to thoroughly understand the immune responses related to this genetic variant (Thr163).
The impact
Understanding immune responses related to a genetic variant (Thr163) could pave the way for personalised immunotherapy for prostate cancer, tailoring treatment for better outcomes.
